THE QUEST - THE CHALLENGE
Artist Christopher Dubois (Van Damme) lives in 1920s New York with a group of orphaned children on the streets, who constantly fight for their survival. When they learn one day that a rich gangster has deposited a lot of money in his warehouse, they decide to steal from him. As a result, their accommodation is stormed by the gangster, and Chris is forced to flee because, to make matters worse, the police show up and he would be convicted as the main culprit for this action.
It hides on a ship, is discovered during the voyage and forced to serve as a slave from then on, but fortunately, pirate Lord Edgar Dobbs, including his colleague Harry Smythe, decides to attack and board the vessel.
Dobbs recognizes Chris as a potential fighter and therefore decides to take him to the so-called Muay Thai island and sell him to the local trader Khao.
Dubois, however, is not privy to the treacherous plan and is led to believe by Dobbs that his wish, which includes the essential return trip to America, will be granted. However, as soon as Chris realizes his situation, Dobbs is long gone, and thus the former artist has to remain on the island indefinitely.
After a few months of training, Dubois participates in a fight, accidentally discovering Dobbs. He not only confronts him but also claims that Dobbs owes him something for his betrayal, which Dobbs acknowledges. Therefore, he introduces Chris to journalist Carrie Newton, who could be helpful for his reputation.
Chris also tells the Lord about a secret tournament called Ghang-Gheng in the lost city, which is supposed to determine the best fighter in the world and honor its winner with a golden dragon.
Dubois is after this prize money, and for this reason Dobbs is supposed to do everything to achieve his goal, although the Lord, with the help of the journalist, finds out that Chris first needs a special invitation to the tournament.
Therefore, they attach themselves to the heels of Maxie Devine, the reigning world boxing champion who has received such an invitation. The team poses as his servants to obtain the document, but ultimately Devine even hands it over voluntarily because Dubois defeats him in a confrontation.
Upon arriving at the tournament, Chris first has to prove whether he is even capable of winning; he passes this test, but after a series of victories, he faces the physically far superior Mongol Khan, who demands everything of him.
Action god Jean-Claude Van Damme and Bond actor Roger Moore star in an epic adventure full of martial arts, which captivates audiences with its great visuals, gripping story and fabulous soundtrack.
