Gangster Ben Archer (Jean-Claude Van Damme) wants to leave the business and dedicate himself to his family. When his wife takes in the refugee girl Kim, she has no idea that the little girl is the only witness to her mother's murder by her father, Sun Quan (Simon Yam). Quan sends his hitmen into the city, and Ben, aided by his old partners Raymond (Claude Hernandez) and Tony (the fantastic Tony Schiena), becomes an all-consuming vengeful demon.

WAKE OF DEATH is a bone-crunching neo-film-noir, a perfectly acted and photographed revenge ballad with strong Hong Kong influence and one of the best films of the great Jean-Claude Van Damme.
The transformation of the Belgian from a pure martial arts star to an intense actor begins here, under the direction of the highly talented Philippe Martinez.
