During an operation, a special commando unit is tasked with taking down a dangerous gang of drug dealers on a site, with sniper Leng Feng (Wu Jing), despite orders to stand back, taking down a hostage-taker.
Although his decision was successful and he was able to rescue the kidnapped person, Leng Feng is held accountable and must answer to his superiors by being temporarily imprisoned.
Commander Long Xiaoyun (Yu Nan), who leads a special unit called "Wolf Warrior", sees potential in him and offers the sniper the opportunity to be part of that expert team which represents the best of the best, which he accepts.
When the kidnapper's powerful brother, Min Deng, discovers that Leng Feng is behind his killing, he sends extremely dangerous mercenaries, led by Tom Cat (Scott Adkins), to hunt down the Wolf Warrior.
Now the question is whether the special unit can hold its own against its opponents or whether its downfall is already sealed...
